The Noodle Experiment may sound funny coming from a paper store, but we promise it’s fun and interesting.

Noodle (well at this point Noodle wasn’t named yet) was folded and attached to a string to be hung in a tree for a week.

We wanted to see how well Rock Paper would stand up to the elements.

The origami crane just spent his first night outside. The weather was pretty mild no strong winds or rain.

It’s 6:15 pm 5/29 the first day of our origami crane experiment. We had a thunderstorm today even though you wouldn’t know by looking now. Anyways, a little bit of water did collect in the crease of the wing. Still going strong 💪

Good Morning! It’s 7:08 am May 30, 2019. Day 2 of the origami crane experiment. It rained over night and as you swipe through the pictures you’ll see how the water pools on the wings. But so far no damages 😁. The forecast today is calling for more thunderstorms.

Day two of the origami crane experiment. It rained most of the day so the crane has collected water in the crease of the wing. I have also noticed a small leaf that’s stuck to the neck...I think it gives the crane some personality 🤔 it’s like a birthmark. Let’s see how long it stays😁 either way it’s holding it’s own and going strong 💪

Day 3 of the origami crane experiment. Not much has changed, the rain water from yesterday is gone, but it is holding its shape. All the folds are still secure and it doesn’t feel like it’s falling apart. I feared the hole where the string is attached would be a weak point, but that is holding its own too. Still going strong 💪

Day 3 of the Origami Crane experiment. Still no change except our little yellow buddy has a new friend resting on the wing. 😆 the birthmark leaf is still there even after raining most of the day. I’m hoping I’ll be able to get some video footage of rain this weekend. Side Note... the names you all are submitting are sooooo great and hilariously perfect! Keep it up!

Day 4 of the Origami Crane experiment and not a whole lot to report. We had a dry night with the exception of the normal morning dew. The crane still has the leaf birthmark, which fascinated me because I would have thought that would have been washed away. The color is still good, all the folds and creases are holding their shape. No tears or weakness in the string hole. Biggest negative I can see is it’s a little dirtier now 😕🧼🛁Still going strong 💪

Day 5 of the origami Crane experiment. This morning we had a new friend show up who wanted to play hide and seek. I thought for sure that squirrel was going to jump out at me😆🐿. As far as the crane goes, the biggest difference I can see is that the folds seem to be slightly looser.

Day 6 of the Origami crane experiment. It’s a same old, same old type of day for the Crane. No changes. DONT FORGET tomorrow is the last day to submit a name and vote. We will be announcing the winner Wednesday June 5th. Get your name in and get all your friends to vote on it! Winner gets a pack of artist paper!

June 4, 2019 6:41 AM

So I made this video at 6:41am this morning June 4, 2019 the 7th and last day of the Origami crane experiment but have had a crazy business morning And I’m not posting it until now 10:55am. What’s the result? It’s held up, it’s still going strong and the paper would be perfect for outdoor use. I’m going to leave it out there and see what happens. I’ll post updates a couple times a month. But with the end of the experiment comes the end of the name challenge. You have until 11:59pm tonight to get your friends to like your name. Check our story highlights for the official count down. Good luck!

I wanted to show the crane in the rain but it never rained when I was around it last week 😐 Go figure it rains the first day after the experiment is over. Anyways here it is 🤗. So based on popular vote the winning name of the crane is Noodle!!

At this point Noodle has been hanging in the same spot outdoors for 8 months and 4 days.

It has been really windy around here the last few days, but Noodle is holding on and staying strong 💪.⠀
Noodle has been hanging in our tree since May 28, 2019. This has been an experiment to see how well Rock Paper will hold up being exposed to the elements.

It’s been 13 months and 2 days since our friend Noodle was placed in this tree. For everyone new since the last time we talked about Noodle; here is the back story. ⠀
✬ we created This origami crane out of our thick Rock Paper and for an experiment, we placed it outside in our tree to see how well it would survive the elements. We wanted to show how Rock Paper can be used like paper but also in alternative ways. Rock Paper is eco friendly but also archival which is a unique combination. Noodle has survived snow, tornado warnings, wind advisories of 50+ mph gusts, torrential down pours and brutal heat. We want Rock Paper to inspire you to create in new ways and make paper projects never before possible. 💛Give it a try and create something unique!
